Insomnia

Quivering like a leaf
From my nightmares there’s no reprieve
Crying silently in fear
Will they come get me if they hear?

Curling up small
Pretend I don’t exist at all
Maybe then they won’t see
And they will leave me be
No such luck
Fate plays a cruel hand
I cry to God
Because only He understands
This restless pounding in my chest
Heralding this night’s unrest
Let me be
Let me sleep
The nightmares cackle as they creep
Toss and turn and toss again
My eyes are burning
My mind still unspent
A million thoughts running through my head
Wake up! Wake up! They seem to scream
My head is spinning
My vision swims
This pounding still louder seems
My hearts is beating as if it knows
My eyes are bruised
Dark shadowed black
Haunted, hollow
They gaze ahead
As yet another night unveils
Insomnia sneaks in
And spins her tales.
