The day you walked out the door

She can’t see their future anymore,

The light’s gone out,

And chance has walked out the door,

She’s afraid to hope for anymore,

And so she sits alone,

Waiting by the phone,

And she says,

“Oh I’m not alone,

I’m fine,

All on my own,

I’ll never shed a tear,

For one that once,

My heart held dear,

I’m stronger than before,

I built a shield around me,

The day you walked out the door”,

But the way she talks and the way she smiles,

Belies her words,

And the pain she can’t escape even after so many miles,

She puts the distance between them,

But feels the pain linger in the air,

But still she says,

“Oh I’m not alone,

I’m fine,

All on my own,

Believe me,

I’ll never shed a tear,

For one that once,

My heart held dear,

I’m stronger than before,

I built a shield around me,

The day you walked out the door”

This time she knows,

She can't trust anyone anymore.
