Everything was going to be ok-Excerpt

She looked into his eyes and the words stumbled to a halt on the tip of her tongue. He was crying. His shoulders shook with the strain of the silent sobs that wracked his body. Cautiously, as if she were approaching a frightened animal, she reached for his hand, the creaminess of her skin startlingly pale against the tanned skin that peeked out from his shirtsleeve. He didn't flinch, didn't even make any movement to acknowledge her hand on his. Dark waves of hair swept across his face, obscuring the normally roguish smile and erasing the cocky expression she had become so accustomed to. Perhaps she had misjudged him. She cocked her head to one side like a sparrow, her bright eyes considering-and suddenly wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug. She heard his surprised gasp as he stiffened at first, then went limp in her arms. She felt his hand curl around the small of her back and smiled. Everything was going to be ok.
