Her heart is a secret garden,
Walled up in stone,
Her feelings are hidden,
For her eyes alone,
She lives a weary existence,
Chained up in fear,
Thrown away the keys,
So no one can come near,
She can't get out,
And they can't get in,
Here in her garden,
She's safe within,
But the nights are cold,
And the days are long,
She sings a sad,
Lonesome song,
She watches the memories of yesterday,
Remembers why,
She became this way,
Creeps into her abode,
And quietly cries,
All because they told her lies,
Her heart was broken,
So her gates she locked,
She retreated,
Into a fortress of rock,
Tried to forget,
All that caused her pain,
But her efforts were in vain,
Every dream and thought that flew,
Caused her scars to reopen,
Her pain to renew,
Till one day she saw that a rock,
From its spot had been moved,
The outside world it no longer blocked,
From that hole,
She saw the truth,
She had been blocking everything,
Even that which was good,
The chains for her safety,
Felt heavier than they should,
She glanced at the sky,
The freedom beyond,
And told her walls and chains,
Begone,
The people who hurt her,
What did they matter?
She was the victim,
But all that was over,
There were things that were worth the pain,
Like love and friendship,
Which within walls could not be gained,
So she took a step,
Out of that garden,
Never looked back,
Her new life had just started.
